Dark Light

I created this as part of a Canada Council grant that I received in 2023.

It is a standard loop antenna that helps attenuate RF (Radio Frequency). Basically, the loop boosts signals when placed adjacent to a radio receiver.

I liked the idea of capturing RF, much in the way a dreamcatcher catches dreams. Something invisible can be caught, enhanced and heard.

Here are some other Antenna’s I designed using electroforming and 3D printing.

  • The dicone, the copper upside down cone with a flat top, was made using a 3D print, and copper electroforming. This antenna configuration is hyper-sensitive due to the copper…but it works.
  • The Ground Plane antenna, is telescopic so it can be calibrated to receive optimal frequency ranges. The image below, the antenna is set to receive 915 MHZ, which is an ISM band (Industrial, Scientific, and Medical).
  • The Yagi Direction, is a 3D printed prototype. It will be electroformed with copper and made into a functional antenna. The nature of Yagi antenna’s is for them to be pointed as a source, that is why they are considered directional.
